Children's Centres In Prestwich

I don't know how many of you mums have been bringing up children in our area for more than the last five years or so, but for those of you who are new to the whole thing, things are far better than they used to be. My eldest is nearly 14 and when he was small I lived in Prestwich village,I was a stay at home mum, I didn't have a car and not very much money to spare. There wasnt that much to do in those days, in fact when it rained the only option was Alphabet Zoo in Whitefield, and I'm sure my son was sick to the back teeth of the place. As a mum this time around, it is a whole lot better, there is a culture of private early years education and of course child tax credits, so at least single parents can work if they want to, if they have the energy to, or if they financially absolutely have to. I know the arguments for and against staying at home or working, Ive done both and I can say that staying at home was actually as tiring as going to work, if not more sometimes!
The children's centres are, in my humble opinion, one of the best things the Labour govt introduced and for many mums they are a lifeline..if you've never been to one you really, really should get down to one. Sedgley Park children's centre in Prestwich is fantastic, there are activities and classes on everyday during the week as well as stay and play sessions if the weather's poor, and it's not expensive at all. The only downside is that they aren't open on weekends!

Calling all mums in Bury South

Hi,

my name's Claire and I'm the proud mum of three children aged 15 months, 2.5 and 13. I work 4 days a week for our local MP Ivan Lewis arranging community events and finding out what issues local people face. I've set up this blog because physically I don't have time to meet as many mum's as I would like to find out from them what they would like from our community and their MP. More importantly, I wanted to set up a network of local mums who would be interested in offering friendship and support to each other in our area.. We could use this blog to let each other know what activities and groups are available and what we think of the services and facilities that we have available to us.. what do you think?
